Ancient History
October 22
For History I listened to my Mom read from Story of the World, and drew a picture of the Olympics and farmers growing crops in Greece. I thought that was fun because people actually learn because they listen and they can answer questions, which is what we did.

More listening & drawing. Carli (a friend) also showed my sisters & me a video(actually two)about ancient Greek history. The first was about two wives(one spartan & one athenian woman) who switch families for one day. The Spartans & the Athenians were SO different!
Then, the second video went something like this: Athens was an amazing, rich, diverse
city that was very advanced (in my mind) & I believe the first to have a democracy... Anyway, Pericles either was close, or at the head of the government. He wanted extra fame for Athens,so he wanted to try to destroy conquer Sparta (the city-state that focused on war & strength\power? Really? I don't think so). He (Pericles) gathered the citizens into the city of Athens itself while receiving supplies from the sea. One man,Socrates, disagreed. He thought that Pericles' plan wouldn't work.Socrates was right.
The ships that supplied Athens while the Spartans were destroying the land brought a pleague into Athens. It killed about one third of its population.Pericles also died. End. I just thought that that was just so coooool! If something here is not accurate or you have some thing to add, please tell me.

Rachel, I liked your notebook artwork. Makes me want to take a trip to Ancient Greece and camp out and watch the events. I wonder what I would have in my picnic basket for lunch. Probably not lemongrass chocolate. But, hey, chappati and lamb work for me!
